Having recently talked about the Food Tech trend of tracking your diet using artificial intelligence, it was now time to try it out…
DAY 1- CHOOSE THE APP AND GET STARTED
Meet Foodvisor, the app that detects what’s on your plate and provides a detailed analysis with a simple photo. Foodvisor promises to improve your relationship with food with a smart tracking system. Their mascot is a little avocado, a symbol of good fat. So let’s get started!
We choose the “Lose weight” option. The daily calorie goal is very precise and has to be divided into fats, carbohydrates, proteins and fibre. To analyse and track everything, just take a photo of your plate and artificial intelligence will take care of the rest! The first problem is with our morning tea: Foodvisor detects goat’s cheese.
Not much success with a bowl of porridge either. Everything has to be entered manually. It takes time and the app thanks you for helping to add to the data…
DAY 2 – CONTINUATION AND END OF EXPERIMENT
Like the day before, the app doesn’t recognise our meals. Entering everything manually is stressful: we worry we might leave out an ingredient, there’s no way of checking the exact weight of the lentils in the mixed salad, how much oil is in the vinaigrette….
A few hours later, we get this helpful message:
Tip: to get a better analysis, separate the different foods on your plate.
So, you have to make little piles of food with your fork… It’s a bit much in our opinion.
We decide to stop wasting our batteries, give up the quest for nutritional perfection and continue to indulge the bon viveur in us!
